EYFS Course

Early years foundation stage

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.

All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

The EYFS only applies to schools and early years providers in England. There are different early years standards in Scotland and Wales.

Areas of learning

Your child will mostly be taught through games and play.

The areas of learning are:

communication and language

physical development

personal, social and emotional development

literacy

mathematics

understanding the world

expressive arts and design

Assessments

Your child’s progress will be reviewed when they’re between 2 and 3 by an early years practitioner or health visitor.

Their class teacher will assess them at the end of the school year when they turn 5.

The assessment is based on classroom observation - your child won’t be tested. It uses the early learning goals, which can be found in the early years framework.

Parents can ask for an exemption

If an area of learning conflicts with your beliefs

Talk to your child’s early years provider if you think one or more areas of the EYFS conflict with your religious or philosophical beliefs. They’ll tell you if you need to ask for an ‘exemption’.

If you get an exemption, your child won’t have to take part in a specific area of learning for 12 months.

Write to your early years provider if you decide to ask for an exemption. You must explain how your religious or philosophical beliefs conflict with:

an area of learning

a learning goal or assessment

Your early years provider will decide if you can get an exemption. If you get one, you’ll need to apply again after 12 months.

EYFS: WHAT IS IT?

EYFS is the acronym for Early Years Foundation Stage, but what is it and where does it apply?

The EYFS is a framework created under the ChildCare Act of 2006 concerned with the learning, development and welfare of all children from birth to the age of five.

It applies to

Childminders.

Day nurseries.

Playgroups and holiday play-schemes.

Breakfast and after school clubs.

School reception and nursery classes.

Sure Start Children’s Centres.

WHAT ARE THE 4 MAIN PRINCIPLES OF THE EYFS?

Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

What Do You Prefer : Debt Recovery or Debt Prevention?

Attention School Owner: For me, Debt Prevention Is Better Than Debt Recovery

I know you have heard and read a lot about school fees debt recovery but I have come to tell you that it is better to prevent school debt because prevention is better than cure.

Debt destroy relationship, cripple business growth and development and can lead to bankruptcy

So as you open new chapter of your school with the reopening of school across the country, you can run your school debt free by following these steps

1. Fix school fees appropriate for your existing and potential parents. I mean don't fix school fee above the income of your pupils' parents. To do this you need to know which income category of parents do you want their wards to enroll in your school. If your school is for average income earners don't fix the school fees of high income earners otherwise many of your parents will default over and over again. If your school is in low income area but the facilities put in place is for middle income earners, delibrately go out of the area to look for middle income parents that can afford your school fees comfortably. This is very important. I have a school in my middle income area that is for high income earners and pupils of high income earners are driven to the school everyday. Likewise many resident in my area drive their wards to some middle and low income school every day.

2. Have a flexible payment plan but never accept zero down payment for admission for both new and returning pupils at the beginning of every term. What do I mean? If your school fees for examples is 20,000. You can have 40:30:30 payment plan. That is, every parent who can not pay at once must at least pay 40% of the fees before their wards are being allowed into classes. Within the next 30days pay at least 30% and within another 30days pay 30%. Let this be documented in form of undertaken with the clause that their ward will be refused entry into the school if they default. Also to secure their commitment ask them to write to authorize their employers to deduct at source and remitt to the school account or give a standing order instructions to their banks or a post dated cheque for each payment. If they default in meeting up within 30days do not allow their ward into classes even for a day. Make sure you are firm on this.

3. Maintain only business-customers relationship with your parents. Be friendly but don't turn them to family friends. If you do you are creating avenue for default. Don't persuade family and friends to enroll in your school especially if you are emotional person, you will not be able to resist their overture to default and in the end it will ruin your relationship.

4. Give great incentive for early payment of fees. Just think out of the box. It could be discount, just anything that can motivate parents to pay early.

5. Make payment easier and easily accessible: As a school, have multiple means by which parents can pay their ward fee. Have account in more than one banks, have pos in the school so that parents can pay via pos, get ussd code so that parent who don't use mobile app can pay with their phone, provide payment link on your website, Facebook page or via WhatsApp. This could aid many parents to make payment easily without being restricted to just one channel.

6. Consolidate your fees. I mean give your parents one single fees that covers virtually everything that is basic and payable as single fee to any of your bank account. In arriving at fee for different items like uniform or text book please let the fee be almost thesame thing they will buy it in the open market. For text book in my opinion give them the list of the books to buy and if you want to sell give it to them at retail price they will buy it in the open market.

7. Do not break the rule you have set for the school for any one. Once the parents see you strictly adhering to your school fees payment policies, they will comply and you will never have cause for debt recovery again in your school.

Thank you.

Simple Marketing Open-Secrets For School Owners and Teachers Part 1

Marketing is simply and smartly presenting the benefits of your products and services to a prospective buyers with the ultimate aim of convincing them to do business with you.

So the first step is to identify who your existing or prospective customers are

The second step is get their contact phone numbers

Third step is to build relationships with them through regular communication

Fourth step is to identify the problem they have and desperately need solution to

Fifth step is to get the products or services that will provide the solution to their problem

Seventh step is to contact them that you now have solution to their problem

Eighth step offer it to them at good price

Nineth step after sale support or services

Tenth step maintain relationship with them.

These steps are applicable to any products, services or business you want to do.

Now for an existing school,  you already have some customers who are your pupils parents while for yet to be establish new school, you need to identify your potential customers.

First practical steps I will encourage you to take if you haven't done so is

1. Safe all your pupils parents both father and mothers phone numbers on your phone. This is very important. Take it seriously. I mean all. Don't delegate it to headteacher, admin or principal to save on his or her phone if he or she leaves your school tomorrow he or she  will leave with most important asset of your school. Aside that he or she would have built good relationship with them

If you can afford it get a new number dedicated for your school with a new Android phone and save all your existing parents phone numbers especially their WhatsApp numbers.

If you are using a new number please download *WhatsApp business app* and not normal WhatsApp for this purpose.

If you can't buy another phone and sim you may change your normal WhatsApp app to Whatsapp business app because of it business features that could aid your marketing

Open Facebook, Twitter, Instagram account in the name of the school if you don't already have, put the existing and new phone numbers as contact numbers.

Facebook will begin to show you some of the parents you save their numbers on your phone, to add them as your friend.

*Note: Please add only parents of the pupils of your school as friend to the school Facebook or Twitter or Instagram account. Don't just add anybody. Add only potential customer, those who could enroll their children in your school.*

Also Facebook will be showing you friends of the parents of your pupils. Now before you add any of those of their friends, check the profile for information that suggest they are living in thesame environment with the parents of your pupils.

Second practical step is to relate with every parents living within 500m radius of your school with the aim of getting their phone numbers. This may be challenging but it is possible. Just do it gradually over time. You can plan your self during these period, house to house, introduce yourself to them, give them your number and collect theirs. Send them SMS to appreciate them within 24 hours for obliging you their phone numbers. Take note of any of the women that is pregnant or nursing a baby. Send friendly message to them maybe once a week. By so doing you're simply building relationships with them even though they do not have pupils in your school yet.

These also applicable to teachers reading this post. Save number of every parent in your class you're assign to and build relationships with them.

I hope this piece add value to you. Watch out for the second part soon. Update me with your progress or challenge as you implement these steps.

I wish you the very best.

Thank you.

12 Attributes of Highly Successful School Administrators

It was Jim Rohn who said ‘Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don't wish it were easier; wish you were better." Success is built on attitudes.

A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results.
Below are some attributes that can be a catalyst to your success as an administrator

1. Get to know your staff. Meet with each of your staff at the beginning of the year. Ask them what they need from you. Let them talk about themselves.

2. Learn to delegate. You don’t have to do everything. You have a very capable team which you should work together with.

3. Recognize people’s achievements. Tell them they are awesome. Share their successes at staff meetings. Write cards, celebrate quietly or in front of their peers.

4. Don’t ever lose your temper with someone. That relationship will never recover no matter how hard you will try to fix it.

5. You don’t need to be in the limelight all the time. Get kids and other adults to do some of your public speaking.

6. Keep your school clean. That means you go around and see things. You walk around each day and make sure you are ready for business. Throw junk out. Don’t keep the old printer from the 80’s or the textbooks that were around when you were a kid in school.

7. Work hard during the week. Put in long hours, but protect your weekends. No matter how busy you are. You need to take time for you. You can’t be a help to others if you are exhausted and haven’t had down time.

8. Eat lunch with your staff. Yes you should be out and about. But you have lunch hour supervisors watching the kids. Let them do their job. You go do yours and socialize. Build relationships with your staff.

9. Remember that the kids are someone else’s child who they love very much no matter how tough their behaviour is. Work with the kids. See the best in them. Don’t let negativity influence your decision in how you work with kids. Always do what is best for kids. Always.

10. Be supportive when people do their job well, but take action if people don’t. Don’t let it go if you know that something isn’t quite right. Go in and figure it out. No one wants to do a poor job, help them be successful using a positive approach.

11. Do daily walkabouts in the classroom. Disrupt the class!! Have fun, say good morning or good afternoon. See what they are up to in a non evaluative way. Get to know the kids. Let them know you.
12. Social media is not going away. You need to get snapping with that. You need to write a blog, update your website, do a school Facebook page and get twitter happenings. The monthly newsletter in this day and age is not enough. Our parents have grown up on Facebook and social media. They want information fast. Give it to them.
You can add what you do that makes you more Productive, let others learn.
Thanks
